Description: This is a a robust, somewhat bicolored species. It has a dark stripe on either side of the pronotum and scutellum and a very pale, contrasting median band that extends from the head down onto the inner edge of the wings. Species of this genus "have an expanded 'anal angle' of the male pygofer, and tend to have black flattened parameres" (UDEL). Adults are typically macropterous, but brachypters do occur. Brachypters tend to be tawny overall, with smoky wings; these brachypters however show the characteristic coloration that macropters have.

Habitats and Life History

Habitats: Grassy areas, has been found near mixed hardwood forest.

Plant Associates: Leersia hexandra (Poaceae) (UDEL)

Behavior: Can be attracted at night with a light.

Comment: NOTE: This species could be confused with Sogatella kolophon, as they both have a similar coloration. However, laminalis has a dark face while kolophon has a pale face. Additionally, C. Bartlett notes that kolophon is much more slender and less robust than Muellerianella, with a narrower and subtly projected head. Brachypters of Sogatella are rare at best while frequently found in Muellerianella. [C. Bartlett pers. comments]
